Gays on Broadway by Ethan Mordden (Hardcover)

Gays on Broadway is theater historian Ethan Mordden's lively chronicle of gay and lesbian influence on the American stage. Beginning in the early twentieth century, when gay characters were all but banned and plays were closed on moral grounds, Mordden traces the gradual liberation of gay themes through the plays, performers and writers who shaped Broadway, from early female impersonators to landmark modern productions. Written with his characteristic wit.
