Memorial: A Version of Homer's Iliad by Alice Oswald (Paperback)

Memorial is poet Alice Oswald's bold reworking of Homer's Iliad. Setting aside the familiar story of Achilles and Helen, she focuses on the poem's similes drawn from the natural world and on the long roll of the dead, most known only by name. Through narrative and musical repetition, the result becomes a war memorial and a meditation on the loss of human life, giving fresh voice to an ancient work.
