The Oresteia by Aeschylus, translated by Christopher Collard for Oxford World's Classics, is the only complete trilogy of tragedies to survive from ancient Greece. Agamemnon, Libation Bearers and Eumenides follow a family doomed to repeat the crimes of earlier generations. When Agamemnon is murdered by his wife Clytemnestra, their son Orestes must avenge him, and only his appeal to Athena frees him from the Furies and ends the cycle of bloodshed.
