Out of Chaos by Jon Wilson (Hardcover)

Out of Chaos is a provocative history by Jon Wilson of how nation states rose from the ashes of World War II. Nationalists often claim the nation state has deep historical roots, while many scholars date it to the nineteenth century. Wilson shows how catastrophe, compromise and competing visions after the war forged the fragile order the world still lives in today. O. A. Westad calls it necessary reading for understanding how the modern world came into being.
