Root Magic by Eden Royce (Paperback)

Root Magic is a middle grade novel by Eden Royce set in South Carolina in 1963. After the death of her beloved grandmother, eleven-year-old Jezebel Turner and her twin brother Jay begin learning rootwork, the folk magic tradition of their Gullah Geechee family, from their uncle Doc. As strange events and danger gather around them, Jez must find courage of her own. The novel blends history, family and magic in a story about growing up.
