The Giver by Lois Lowry (Paperback)

Jonas lives in a community where there is no pain, no hunger and no conflict. Every choice, from jobs to families, is made for its citizens. At twelve, Jonas is selected for a rare role: Receiver of Memory. Under the guidance of an old man called the Giver, he begins to experience the colors, feelings and memories that the community has given up.

As he learns the truth about the world he lives in, Jonas must decide what he is willing to risk. Winner of the Newbery Medal, Lois Lowry's thought-provoking novel is a modern classic and a favorite in classrooms for readers ages 12 and up.
