The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave (Paperback)

The Mercies is the first novel for adults by Kiran Millwood Hargrave, inspired by the real Vardo witch trials in seventeenth century Norway. After a storm kills the island's men, the women left behind learn to survive on their own until a severe new commissioner arrives. Atmospheric and haunting, it explores love between women, faith, and fear, and is a great pick for fans of literary historical fiction.
